We’ve just gone into lockdown and I am working specifically on the area of research that looks at intimacy and identity in a project that I have named — Untitled Form. This has unravelled since looking at Warhol’s 1984 works exhibited at the MOMA earlier this year. “Warhol’s Rorschach experiments of the mid-1980s relate clearly to his obsession with copies and multiples, and the way in which these toy with the ‘recognition response’ as it applies to culturally constructed identity and commercial product recognition.”

It is this recognition response that I would like to further explore through a variety of mixed media surrealist artworks. In previous years, I had looked at the public gallery as a setting to extract the reactions from streets artist to a (paste-up) silhouette of the brain. This social experiment was called #GRYMTTRS, it was associated to the decaying matter of the brain and perception of mental wellbeing in creative circles. More recently, I have come to realise that I am looking not only at symmetry perception associated to duality, lateral orientation and self -referentiality but invisible symmetry too.

“Objects and or surroundings are materially implicated…thinking is neither a line drawn between subject and object nor a revolving one around the other “ — Felix Guattari: Politics and Education — For People Yet To Come (1975)

Comparisons of our identity in the post-information age to that of an avator or online profile became an advanced creation by humans through the improvements and digitisation of society. Yet, communication is what strings us together! Linguistically! Poetical content creation is something that philosophises the growth of the mind and the association of impersonal experiences at an emotional level.
